Rather than write a report, I'll just post Jimmy Broadbent's video of all the action with commentary! Well done, sir!

    S2R1 Steward Report

Post by John Bacho on Sat 7 Sep - 22:06

    STEWARD REPORT

    Feature Race

    • Lap 16 -- Paul Schuman taps the back of Adam Hodginkson into the braking zone for Moss hairpin. Though they made it through just fine one lap earlier, for some reason the two Astons conertina behind Bacho as the brakes are applied. Hodginkson goes into the grass after the contact -- note, I don't think you needed to pit for damage from that hit unless your car has red or flashing red damage. An unfortunate racing incident, no penalties given. Be mindful of braking differences between competitors in tricky & tight sections.

    Sprint Race

    • Lap 1 -- Garth Buchanan doesn't expect Sheldon to slow as much as he did and Garth tries to avoid a crash. Too bad Bailey's Mercedes was on the inside! Stephen goes off and spins around, narrowly avoiding major damage. Talking with Garth and evaluating the replay, it was an honest mistake at an unexpected moment. No penalty given.

    • Lap 5 -- On the entry to Moss, Nick Woodbury loses control and goes wide. As his car slides back onto the track he makes contact with Paul Schuman. It was a good thing too, it straightened Woodbury out (it's likely he would have been stopped on the racing line & pointing the wrong direction). No penalty given, Nick was a passenger in that spin.

    • Lap 5 -- As a result of the earlier incident, Kjell Stenbeck was able to catch up to Woodbury and Schuman on the Mario Andretti straight. Kjell moves to the outside for the fast right-hander to race Woodbury. Schuman bump passes Stenbeck's Porsche on the right-rear corner and takes the position away from him. Warning issued to Paul Schuman. It was already a hairy & complex move occurring between the Porsche and Ferrari. Attacking at the slightest opening, making contact and taking the spot was too greedy.

    • Lap 8 -- Jimmy Broadbent loses control of his SLS AMG at the entry of Moss, spins round, comes to a complete stop and resumes just in front of Paul Schuman w/ the slightest of touches between them. Warning issued to Broadbent for a marginally unsafe rejoin after an incident. Schuman could have alleviated the situation if he lifted slightly and treated it like a yellow flag (though we have no official rule about slowing for yellows, more of a sporting/gentlemanly thing). Also please refrain from turning on your lights out of frustration.

    • Lap 8 -- The two of them aren't done yet. Schuman and Broadbent race side-by-side into the fast right-hander after the back straight. Schuman goes too deep into the corner and leaves the inside line for Jimmy to cross-over on him. Jimmy can't move right any further (dropped a wheel on the grass for part of it) and Schuman continues steering into him. rFactor does its usual wonky shit when high-speed contact is made and it threw Paul's Aston into a wall. No penalties given, racing incident. Both drivers raced hard and touched while turning and moving quickly. The earlier incident in the lap possibly fueled them for a disaster, so I can't single one out to place any blame.

Yes indeed!  Very sorry Anders for being in a really bad spot.  I should have reatired at once.

Had fun 2/3 of the way through the main race:

I should have spent more time editing to get it in sync with the spins maybe. I'm uncertain what level of irony you are cruising at, but that is an excerpt from "Echinda's Arf For You" by Frank Zappa. Didn't think it was groovy so much as driving and stumbling.

    This is more groovy"
